Thailand Good to Know

General - Asian country known for smiling faces. People are extremely friendly and helpful.

 

Language - Thai but English is widely spoken, especially in the tourist areas

 

Crime - Thailand is one of the safest in Asia, violent crimes are rare. Keep your bags away from the street and always keep an eye on your belongings. However, always use common sense.

 

Money - Thai Baht. 1 Bhat is about 3 cents USD. Lots of ATMs in tourist areas.

 

Hint: Before you travel make sure you use a credit card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees. There are a lot of them out there. Those can add up fast.

 

Water - Do not drink from tap. Drink bottled water.

 

Electricity - Thailand uses socket types A, C, F and O.  Check to see if you will need an adapter before you go.

 

Tipping - Not mandatory or customary. Small tips are appreciated. 20 Baht is about 60 cents USD.

 

Bathrooms - All kinds. Be prepared and carry toilet paper and sanitizer. Don't throw toilet paper in toilet.

 

Driving - Drive on the left side of the road. May need an International Drivers Permit (IDP) depending on where you are going.
