Phuket Island Tour - 10 July 2023 Part 1

Jillian Scribs

After a late night it was hard to get up early, but we are touring Phuket today. We loaded on the bus and drove to the south of the island, Promthep Cape. It was about 45-minute drive. The view was pretty.

This is a religious site. You can come here and make a wish, then when your wish comes true, you return a leave a gift.

We went on the hunt for a bathroom. Glad we had our toilet paper with us. The area around was just waking up.

The King is revered in Thailand. You do not insult the royal family, it's highly offensive. Many places have pictures of the king.

Jamie decided she was over the tour and went to sleep in the back of the bus.

Here is our route so far.

Our next stop was Wat Chalong, which was about a 15-minute drive. Even the bus rides are pretty,

A wat is a temple. It is respectful to cover yourself before entering, so no bare shoulders, legs, etc. Also do not take selfies with Buddhas. Wat Chalong is a complex with several buildings.

This Buddha is covered with gold leaf. People come here and make a wish and put a piece of the gold leaf on the Buddha. There were actually 3 sitting in a line.

When your wish comes true, you come back here and set off firecrackers. I about had a heart attack the first time I heard some go off.

This place is so pretty.

I walked up this staircase to the third story. The second story had a variety of different Buddhas.

The top floor had a gorgeous view of the area.

I only went inside 2 of them. They don't have A/C and it was too hot and stuffy inside. There were a bunch of little shops near the complex, so I did a little shopping. I walked into 1 stall and the guy tells me the jumbo sizes are in the back. Then proceeded to tell me the things I looked at wouldn't fit me. I would have been offended but he wasn't being mean just matter of fact.

Here is the route.

The rest of the trip is in Part 2.
