Market Train, Thailand - 7 July 2023 Part 2

Jillian Scribs

Off to our next stop, which was just a few minutes' drive. We are taking the Market Train from Ban Ka Long train stop to the Maeklong stop.

This route takes right through the market that's on the train tracks. When the train comes through, the vendors move stuff off the tracks and pull in the awnings. Here comes our train.

The actual train ride was fine about 20 minutes long. We passed several homes and fields, nothing spectacular. But then we neared Maeklong station. It was unreal watching all the people and stuff so close to the train. As we were taking this picture a guy grabbed my arm and scared me.

Look how close everything is. I know Americans have a rep for being stupid. but since being in Thailand, I keep finding myself thinking, that's just crazy, someone could get hurt. We really fall short in the commonsense department.

This was a highlight for me. So different from anything I've experienced before. This place was chaotic and awesome. I loved it.

We arrived at Maeklong station.

We posed with the train. We will be glistening in these pictures. It is hot.

At this point, we rushed through the market. I mean rushed. For someone as clumsy as I am this was a bit of a challenge. The market is on the tracks, so you have to watch where you step, it is crowded, and stuff is everywhere. Plus, I was afraid if I lost Pop, I would never find her.

We had to rush to the other end of the market, so we could see the train leave. I arrived safely. We had a couple minutes to spare so we ordered smoothies and found a bathroom.

This market has everything. We even saw pet birds just hanging out.

Then the crowd started getting excited and we knew the train was coming.

It just blew my mind that this track is so crowded, but somehow it clears as the train moves through.

Time to head to the next stop. Here is our route so far.
