Erawan National Park - 7 July 2023 Part 5
I love waterfalls. I have done several trips where I just drive around chasing them. So, when I heard about Erawan I knew I would have to experience it. Erawan National Park contains Erawan Waterfalls which has 7 main levels of falls plus several littler falls along in a 1.25-mile path. The lower falls, Level 1 & 2, are easily accessible. As you go higher the levels get a little more challenging.
Being completely honest, this was the hardest challenge I have had in a long time. In case you aren't aware, I'm overweight and out of shape. Sounds perfect to climb 1.25 miles up a mountain, right? Well let's add in it was 105 degrees in a dense forest. Yup, no kidding. I have to say it was worth it. Indescribably gorgeous.
Here is the path up to Level 7. You basically follow the river up the mountain.
Pop told us to have fun and meet her when we finished. So off we went.
Level 1, Lai kun rang, is right by the entrance, only about 66 feet.
Level 2, Wang Mat Cha, is about 500 feet further.
So far so good, on to Level 3, Pha nam tok, about 657 feet. You can swim in any of these, but those fish will pick dead skin and moles off of you,
As you are walking all these little falls appear.
I was tempted a couple of times to jump in. But it was so hot and humid, I didn't think I would dry off.
The water is such a beautiful blue color.
It was very dense forest, but every so often it would open up and you could see the area.
On to Level 4, Oke nang Phee Sue, approximately 1640 feet further up the mountain.
We stumbled across this guy. I think it's a monitor lizard. We also saw a monkey.
Everywhere you looked it was just beautiful.
Next on to Level 5, Buar Mai Long, about another 3610 feet. We have also climbed about 1100 meters. This is where it was getting harder. The nice pathways were gone and it's hot (did I mention that already?).
At the same time, it was getting prettier. This was one of my favorites.
Level 6, Doag Pruk Sa, about 4600 feet higher.
At this point, I really want to turn stop but we are so close, it can't be that much more, right? Wrong!! I was so hot, so tired, but I just had to climb these steps. By the way, I told Jamie to stop taking pictures of my misery. I got to the top of these stairs, only to see more. I didn't think they would end.
Level 7, Phu Pha Erawan, is only about 5020 more feet. At this point we have climbed up in elevation 1500meters. Hard work pays off and thankfully no heart attack.
So happy I made it! I was proud of myself. I walked around in the water to cool off.
Then we walked back down to meet Pop. Way easier going down. Then on to the next stop. Here is our route so far.
